Continuing its celebrations in relation to 10 years of The Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red has announced a new cross-platform mod program - and it'll bring mods to Xbox consoles for the very first time.
Yep, The Witcher 3 Next-Gen will soon support in-game mods downloaded via the mod.io platform. Fellow open-world affair Stalker: Legends of the Zone Trilogy recently got on board with mod.io also, with both titles allowing users to create and share mods across PC and current-gen consoles.
The mods themselves must be created on the PC platform, but they can then be shared to mod.io and downloaded by Xbox Series X|S and PS5 users. CDPR does note that "due to specific content guidelines and selection criteria for each platform, it may not be possible to bring every mod uploaded on PC to console", which is how most console mod systems work.
In terms of when this mod support will be live and ready to go, the dev team says that mod.io functionality is coming to The Witcher 3 "in a game update released later this year" - which will seemingly be the game's final patch after 10 years on the market.
There's been quite a lot of news regarding CDPR and its portfolio as of late, which will be music to the ears of RPG fans. We've seen a couple of fantastic looking Xbox controllers recently for 10 years of The Witcher 3, while the team has also confirmed that Cyberpunk 2 is now in development alongside the next Witcher title.
